A Pyradachs
July 19th, 2006
A search for Irish-saint dog names led me to a Sheltie blog with the following terrible, delightful wordplay (see for the full list):
The following breeds are now recognized by the AKC:
Collie + Lhasa Apso = Collapso, a dog that folds up for easy transport
Pointer + Setter = Poinsetter, a traditional Christmas pet
Great Pyrenees + Dachshund = Pyradachs, a puzzling breed
Pekingese + Lhasa Apso = Peekasso, an abstract dog
Irish Water Spaniel + English Springer Spaniel =Irish Springer, a dog fresh and clean as a whistle
Labrador Retriever + Curly Coated Retriever =Lab Coat Retriever, the choice of research scientists
Newfoundland+ Basset Hound =Newfound Asset Hound, a dog for financialadvisors
Bloodhound + Labrador= Blabador, a dog that barks incessantly

Peekasso is my favorite on this list =)
Will have to give some thought to the new family addition, though…

Blabrador gets my vote. But really, I think we should name the new little brother after Orlando Bloom, who is kind of like a Tolkien character and kind of like a saint. Ha.

Ah, Orlando the martyr. Have I told you about the time Dormouse and I spent an afternoon at Starbucks imagining how various Lord of the Rings actors would take on the role of Jesus on the cross? Viggo would go all method and actually stick nails through his hands. Elijah Wood would roll his buggy eyes back into his head. And Orlando? Orlando would make a face like a poor, bewildered puppy.
Which is not to say that we want our puppy to look like Orlando Bloom. I mean, really, do you want to name a furry animal after someone who can’t even grow a proper mustache when he needs to?
(Sorry, Mink dearie–you know I must mock. Actually, though, I recall that Mama Chipmunk is rather fond of Mr. Bloom herself, so maybe your suggestion has a chance . . .)

By the way, Mink, I just came across this lovely bit of cinematical news: “, angered over what she called France’s insensitivity to the plight of minks, has threatened to move to Sweden.”
