Oops. I made a mistake. I just imdb-ed Weaving and Purefoy and it turns out that they are only four years apart in age, not twenty. I'd been guessing that Purefoy was around 30 and Weaving was around 50. In fact, Weaving is 46 and Purefoy is 42. Still, even if they're close to the same age, one would assume that they don't move identically.

Yeah, there's actually a whole saga about Hugo Weaving's being cast as V. Originally the role was James Purefoy's, and they'd actually begun filming with him. He apparently had some trouble acting with a mask, and so they gave Hugo a call and said, "How fast can you fly to Germany?" (where they were filming). They kept the scenes they'd already shot with Purefoy, though, re-dubbed with Weaving's voice--that struck me as kind of odd, even if he is masked and caped. But I admit there weren't any moments in the movie where I actually noticed, say, a twenty-year difference in V's age.

I didn't realize that Hugo Weaving was in this V for Vignette-or-whatever movie. Hmm, that knowledge was the first twinge of interest that I've had however. A movie pretty much has to get my attention (or steadfast loyalty) 100% before I'll go to the theater to see it now. Which explains why the last movie I saw was Narnia and the next movie I'm likely to see is X-Men 3... *wibbles*

Thanks! I much appreciated your insight in picking apart the problematics of transformation in the movie, esp. re. the character of Evey. I couldn't quite pin down what wasn't satisfying here. And it was the total absence of seeing what it meant to live without fear. Evidently she chooses to keep her hair short, but the other choices and the possibilities open to her after this supposed transformation are kept out of sight/out of mind in the rush to reach 5 Nov. There was more transformation offered in the character of the female doctor (the last of V's rose victims) turned coroner.
